Animals
Bluebird Hills Farm began our adventure with livestock in 1998. Alpacas and sheep were a great choice for us because their fleeces are their product (Laurel isn’t comfortable with slaughtering critters born on the farm). A love for animals, the unique personalities that each animal has, and the experience and education they provided our children was tremendous.
Our kids all participated in 4H, helped pitch in to take care of the critters when needed, and experienced the miracle of birth and the loss of death while growing up on the farm. Grown and living on their own, they still come home to help with shearing.
While Laurel manages the alpacas and sheep, Tim manages the bee “herd”. Typically there are 10 hives of bees working the farm. In mid-summer Tim harvests the honey which we sell at the Peanut Shoppe on Main Street in Springfield, Ohio.
We invite you to visit our alpacas and sheep through these pages and take a look at our educational material as well. If you are interested in adding alpacas or sheep to your life, give us a call or click “contact” above to send us a note.
