Our History

Tim and Laurel Shouvlin established Bluebird Hills Farm in 1998. For 15 years we specialized in growing organic vegetables for sale at Farmers Markets and distribution through our Community Supported Agriculture program. In 1998 we added alpacas to the farm and in 2016 we added sheep. Retiring from growing vegetables for market in 2009, the farm focus shifted entirely to the alpacas and sheep, and Tim’s bee “herd” of 10 hives on our property- harvesting their honey for sale locally at the Peanut Shoppe on E. Main Street in Springfield, Ohio.
Laurel has been very active in the alpaca industry volunteering as a publisher and editor of the Ohio Alpaca Magazine, serving on the Alpaca Registry Board of Directors, serving as a Director for the Alpaca Owners Association (AOA), and currently as a Director on the Suri Network Board. She also has earned certification with AOA as an alpaca judge which has given her the privilege of judging alpacas from coast to coast in the United States as well as in Canada, Australia, and Austria.
Unlike many farms that raise fleece stock, we also utilize some of the fiber our animals produce to create various products. We also sell yarn and raw fleece to those who enjoy using it in their own projects. All of our fleeces are meticulously skirted to remove inferior parts of the blanket and vegetable matter to ensure that the best products can be created. The adage of garbage in garbage is definitely true with products made from animal fleece.
We are anxious to share our knowledge of our animals, their care, their fiber, and our products with you. Offered on these pages are some of our alpacas, sheep, and products made from their fleeces. Thanks for taking the time to view our pages and please feel free to contact us with your questions.
